In Greece’s capital, there is something for everyone. Young or old, whether you are fascinated by ancient greek thought and civilization, a lover of history, a sophisticated art gallery enthusiast or you want to experience something entirely different and unique, at Priority Travel Hub we’ve got your back. These are our top picks for museums in Athens.

For explorers of the past

The Acropolis Museum

In the very heart of Athens, right below the Parthenon, opposite of the stadium of Herodus Atticus, framed by olive trees and reddish rocks that glow in the sunlight, the city’s most renowned museum keeps fascinating everyone who crosses its gates.

The Acropolis Museum is responsible for showcasing a highlight of human civilization. The exhibits are already familiar to anyone who has heard of greek myths, great greek thinkers or the Parthenon, the museum’s clever architecture and layout are captivating and catering to every audience, turning your journey to the past into a pleasant, salty breeze. You will stand face to face with people who shaped the flow of history and thought such as Aristotle and Alexander the Great as well as divine figures who guided their steps: Hermes, Artemis and Hygeia. Walking along the findings that result from archaeologists’ tireless work, you can complete the puzzle of the Parthenon and Erechtheion since many of its’ elaborate art pieces are safely guarded here.

But apart from greatness there is still space from the mundane. Coin boxes, stamps, tools, utensils and toys serve as a reminder of how far in time we have managed to wander, yet some parts of us remain the same.
